Irene Mammen

Mrs. Elmer (Irene) Mammen, 73, LeMars, a Plymouth county native, died unexpectedly Saturday (April 2, 1988) at her home of an apparent heart attack.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Christ Lutheran church, rural LeMars. Rev. Robert Kruempel officiated. Burial was in Christ Lutheran cemetery under direction of the Mauer-Johnson funeral home of LeMars.

The former Irene Doering, she was born June 8, 1914 in Plymouth county to George and Anna Ommen Doering. She was raised in Madison, S.D., and graduated from Eastern State Teacher's College at Madison. She taught school at Brunsville before working for the Department of Agriculture at Washington, D.C.

She married Elmer Mammen June 22, 1941, in Grant township. The couple farmed in Grant township until moving into LeMars in 1970. Mr Mammen died in 1986.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran church.

Surviving is a son, Arthur Mammen of Berkeley, Calif.

She was preceded om death by her parents; brothers, Harry and George Doering, and a brother, Arthur Stephens; and three sisters, Amanda, Therese, and Lillie.
