Adams, Barton Alphonso "Fonnie" 1888 - 1969

Barton Alphonso ("Fonnie") Adams, son of Barton Robert and Anna Katherine Adams pioneer farmers of Portland Township, was born at the family farm home on March 16, 1888, and died April 21, 1969, at St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City. On February 14, 1911 he was married to Elizabeth SearIs, daughter of another pioneer family, Daniel and Carolyn Searls. For many years he farmed in Portland Township and for several years near Buffalo, Montana. He was also engaged in the feed grain and coal business in Sioux City for a number of years. He returned to active farming east of Akron in 1927 and continued farming there until he moved to Akron in 1963. While engaged in farming he was active in township affairs and was employed by the Plymouth County A. S. C. Office until his retirement from farming. He was a member of the United Wesley Methodist Church in Akron.

He is survived by his widow; a daughter, Lois Wilier; three granddaughters, LaVon, Elizabeth and Laura Willer; one brother, V. G. Adams, of Akron; three sisters, Mrs. Grace Jans and Mrs. Nell Siebens, of Akron, and Mrs. Eva Christy, of Sioux City.

Funeral services for Mr. Adams will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at United Wesley Methodist Church in Akron, with Rev. Edward Maus officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The Schroeder Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
