DEATH CALLS MRS. MARGARET BYRNES AT BROOKINGS, S. D.

Mrs. Margaret Byrnes, a pioneer resident of Brookings county, S. D., passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lester Leibbert, of Brookings, S. D., Monday, May 19, 1941, at the ago of 69 years, of heart trouble. Although she had been in poor health the past year, her death came as a shock to her relatives und friends.

Margaret Foley was horn in Louisville, Kentucky, May 25, 1872, and came to Iowa at the age of eight years. She was united in marriage with Edward Byrnes on November 10, 1890, and they made their home here on a farm. In 1902 they moved to South Dakota and lived on a farm three miles east of Brookings until her husband's death, August 1, 1937. Since that time she has been with her daughters. Mrs. Byrnes was well known and had many friends in Akron, having spent much of her time the last few years at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carl Weidenfeller, and with her brother Michael Foley.

Charitable and kind to everyone, a devoted mother, her sudden death was most sad and distressing. She is survived by two sons, Lawrence, of Brookings, and Edward, of Sioux Falls; six. daughters, Mrs. Leonard Jomlin, of North Brookings; Mrs. Edward O'Leary, of Elkton, S. D.; Mrs. Alfred Elverud, of Column, S. D.; Mrs. Carl Weidenfeller, of Akron; Mrs. Lester Leibbert, of Brookings, and Mrs. AI. Thomas, of Akron; also by nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted in St. Thomas' Catholic church, Brookings, S. D., Wednesday morning, May 21, by Rev. Fr. F. X. Dooley. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery there.

Relatives who attended the funeral were: Michael Foley, James Foley, Mrs. James Gale and son, Robert; Mrs. Elizabeth Welch and sons, Jesse, Emmett, William and Robert; Mrs. Bess Foley, Mrs. Sam Claassen, Mrs. James Gale, Jr.; Mr. and Mrs. Al. Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Weidenfeller and son.
