Note: She had a twin sister born in 1891. Her mother's maiden name was Dunn.

Sister Mary Antonius

Sister Mary Antonius B.V.M., 70, a teacher for 16 years at Holy Angels High School, 1218 W. Kilbourn Ave. died of cancer Monday at St. Anthony’s Hospital. She had been ill for several months.

Sister Antonius, born Vivian Agnes, joined the teaching staff at the high school in Fort Dodge, Iowa and a teacher at St. Mary High School in Chicago, Mount academy at Wichita, Kans., and Holy Family high school in Mason city, Iowa. Her specialty was Spanish.

The daughter of the late Mary Ann and Matthew Agnes of Akron, Iowa, Sister Antonius entered the sisterhood of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1911 at the order’s motherhouse in Dubuque, Iowa.

Surviving are six sister, Mrs. Josephine Clayes, Akron, Mrs. Gertrud Burrill, Los Angeles, Miss Rose Hoffman, Washington, D. C.; Sister Mary St. Vivian, B.V.M., Santa Barbara, Calif, and Miss Olive Agnes, Milwaukee; and three brothers, James Agnes, Akron; Matthew Agnes, Fort Dodge, and Father John P. Agnes, S.J., St. Bonifacius, Minn.

Funeral services will be at 9:45 a.m. Thursday in Holy Angels and at 10 a.m. in Gesu Catholic Church, 1145 W. Wisconsin Ave. Father Agnes will be the celebrant of the mass. The body will be in the high school chapel from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
