BAINBRIDGE, PLUMMER, BROWN

SMITHLAND, Iowa -- Ward Bainbridge, 81, of Smithland died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services were 10:30 a.m. Friday at Willman Funeral Home in Rodney, Iowa, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial was in Little Sioux Township Cemetery, Smithland.

Ward Bainbridge, son of Joseph and Ruth (Plummer) Bainbridge, was born March 29, 1930, in Washta, Iowa. He lived near Washta until his family moved to the Oto/Climbing Hill, Iowa, area in 1937. Ward attended school there until the family moved to Smithland in 1946.

Ward was united in marriage to Abbey Brown and four children were born to this union. They later divorced and Ward married Judy Ward. In April 1959, Ward married Judy Petersen and five children were born to this union. Ward worked as a welder for several years at Westendorf's, then Irving F. Jensen Construction, and later retired from Fabricators Inc. He enjoyed gardening, going to the sale barn, and most of all being with his family.

Ward is survived by his children, Lois Kelly of Gilroy, Calif., Eliose and husband, Paul Verga of Centralia, Wash., Ward Bainbridge Jr. of Brookings, S.D., Greg Bainbridge and friend, Pam Haburn of Rodney, Iowa, Jeff and wife, Becky Bainbridge of Sioux City, Shane Bainbridge of Smithland, and Shannan Bainbridge of Rodney; 24 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two brothers, Owen Bainbridge of Holstein, Iowa, and Jack and wife, Nancy Bainbridge of Smithland; one sister, Phyllis and husband, Roy Struble of Hornick; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, David and Denny Bainbridge; and one brother, Loren Bainbridge.
