KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Thelma V. Bainbridge, 89, of Kingsley passed away Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at Kingsley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Kingsley United Methodist Church. The Rev. Roger Kurtenbach will officiate. Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Johnson-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

Thelma Viola Bainbridge was born Aug. 15, 1922, on the family farm near Kingsley, to Roscoe and Viola (Sheeler) Vannorsdel. She attended country school and later graduated from Pierson (Iowa) High School.

In 1941, Thelma and Harland Bainbridge were united in marriage at the Methodist parsonage in Kingsley. The couple made their home on a farm near Kingsley. Thelma was a homemaker as well as assisting Harland with farming. Harland passed away on May 19, 1984. Thelma moved into Kingsley that fall. She would later move to the Kingsley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in 2007.

Thelma was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She taught Sunday School, was a choir member, participated in circle, United Methodist Women and served as secretary/treasurer for many years. In her spare time, Thelma enjoyed gardening, playing cards and enjoyed activities with the Red Hat Society. She also loved to play the piano and sing.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Dennis, and his wife, Myrna, of New Meadows, Idaho; two grandchildren, Michelle Cronin and her husband, Greg, of Blue Springs, Mo., and Scott Bainbridge and his wife, Danielle, of Boise, Idaho, and their mother, Judy Bainbridge of South Sioux City; three great-grandchildren, Avery, Reid and Wilson Harland Bainbridge of Boise; a stepbrother, Vernon Gross of Kingsley; sisters-in-law, Bernice Vannorsdel of Kingsley, and Irene Vannorsdel of Dubuque, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Vance Bainbridge of Kingsley, and Russell "Bud" Bainbridge of Iowa City, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harland; a sister, Charlotte (Pratt) Furch; brothers, Paul (Evelyn) Vannorsdel, Max (Irene) Vannorsdel and Donald Vannorsdel; a half brother, Dana (Shirley) Vannorsdel; stepsister, Elda (Darrel) Shever; and stepbrothers, Claude (Ruby) Gross and Helen (Howard) Page.
