Mr. Doering was born in Friedeburg, Germany, on April 25, 1847, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Doering. He received his education in Friedeburg and a the age of 17 years, came to this country with his parents, where they settled in Dixon, Ill. At Dixon the family took up farming and remained there for four years. The family then moved on to Jones county, Iowa, settling on a farm and in 1873 journeyed to Plymouth county, again settling on a farm.

On August 25, 1882, he was united in marriage to Marguerite von Hagel, and to this union six children were born. Two children preceded their father in death, who were Mrs. Henry Buehre and John Doering. Those who survive with his devoted wife are: Mrs. Fred B. Onken of Craig; John Doering of Louisville, Kentucky; Mrs. Henry Frahm, LeMars and Mrs. Harry Landgraf of Hawarden. Nineteen grandchildren also mourn his loss, besides many friends. He also leaves a brother, Oltman Doering, living northwest of LeMars.

Mr. and Mrs. Doering retired from the farm 13 years ago and moved to LeMars, where they have made their home ever since.

Deceased was a good member of St. John's Lutheran church and was widely known throughout this community. His many friends and admirers join with his loving wife and children in mourning the passing of a great pioneer, who braved the hardships of building this community from rolling prairie to big cities and rich farm lands.
