Early Settler At Melbourne Dies
Last Rites Held For Mrs. BogenriefDeath claimed Mrs. W. O. Bogenrief, an early settler in the Melbourne community, at her home in Merrill on Saturday, January 11, following a lingering illness.
Mary Jane Grist was born October 19, 1865, near Carlisle, Pa., where she spent her girlhood days. When she was seventeen years of age she went to North Manchester, Indiana, where she resided with her brother, George Grist. She was married to W. O. Bogenrief February 2, 1886. They moved to Iowa and settled in the Melbourne community in Plymouth county. In the spring of 1924 they retired from the farm and moved to Merrill where they have since resided. She was a member of the United Evangelical church of Melbourne.
To their union were born seven children. Oscar, the oldest, died in infancy. Those surviving to mourn her death are her husband, W. O. Bogenrief, two daughters, Mrs. Clara Julch of James, Mrs. Eva Conrad of Jasper, Minn.; four sons, Arthur and George, of Merrill, Adlai, of Hinton, and William, of Leeds. Also a brother, George Grist of Wabash, Ind. Eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Melbourne Evangelical church Burial was in the Melbourne cemetery under the direction of the Barnett Funeral home. Six grand sons acted as pallbearers at the funeral.
