Note: One notice says he died at age 15 and another 17. Based on caculations in him being the 9th son it is believed he was 17. His age was probably corrected with the last announcement. His mother's maiden name was Ross

Fifteen Year Old Son of Mrs. Florence Banks Succumbs to Illness After an extended sickness.

Merritt Darrell Banks, of Westfield, 15 years old, a member of a well known Sioux township family, died Saturday afternoon in a hospital at Akron, The boy was born in Sioux City but had lived near Westfield for some years.

He leaves to mourn his death his mother, Mrs. Florence Banks, ten brothers. Homer, Howell, Belmer Wirth, Emmett, Lloyd, Joseph, Arden, Alvord and Oral and two sisters. Vera and Marion, all of Sioux township.

The funeral of Merritt Banks, who died at the Akron hospital Saturday afternoon was held at the Westcott chapel in Sioux City, Tuesday afternoon and attended by a large circle of friends. Rev. Wallace M. Short spoke most fittingly to the occasion and a soloist provided effective music. Merritt was the ninth son of Mrs. Florence Banks and a popular young man in the community. He leaves a number of brothers and sisters as well as many friends to mourn his early death. Interment was in Graceland Park cemetery and the pall bearers were recruited from the young men of the neighborhood. A beautiful metallic casket received his body and lovely flowers testified the love and respect of his neighbors. Practically the entire Milnerville neighborhood braved the unpleasant wintry weather and attended the obsequies.

Friends here extend sympathy in Mrs. Blanche Banks and family in the death of their son and brother, Merritt Darrel Banks, who passed away in the Akron hospital Saturday, December 3. A number of friends from here attended the funeral which was held Tuesday afternoon. Burial was in Logan Park Cemetery.

Merritt Darrell Banks, age 17, son of Mrs. Florence Banks, of Westfield, died at the Akron hospital last Saturday after a lingering illness.

Funeral services wore held in Sioux City Tuesday.

Besides his mother he leaves ten brothers and two sisters to mourn his death.
