RITES HELD FOR MRS. ALVA PORT

Long Illness Is Fatal To An Esteemed Akron Woman

Mrs, Alva Port passed away at her home, east of town, Tuesday morning, September 22, 1942, at 6:45 o'clock, after a five weeks illness, at the age of 41 years, 5 months and 13 days. On August 17 she suffered an attack of cerebral hemorrhage and was taken to a Sioux City hospital, where she was under treatment for four weeks. When it appeared that she was well on her way to recovery, she was brought to her home here on September 10, and hopes of a complete recovery were held for her. However, on the morning of September 22, at about 1:30 o'clock, she was stricken with a second attack and failed to rally.

Lucetta Frances Morehead, daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth. Morehead, was born April 9, 1901, near Adaville, Plymouth county, Iowa. In her early girlhood she moved with her parents to a farm south of Akron, and this community has since remained her home. On December 24, 1919, she was united in marriage with Alva Port at Elk Point, S. D. Mrs. Port was a member of the local Methodist church and the Methodist Ladies' Aid Society. A kind, devoted wife and mother, an affectionate sister, a helpful and sympathetic neighbor, she was held in high esteem in a wide of circle of friends, who will sincerely miss her.

Besides her husband and son, Daryl, she is survived by three brothers, Strachey and Clare Morehead, of Akron, and Charles Morehead, of San Diego, Calif., and six sisters, Mrs. Alta Lunde, Mrs. Leonard Miller and Mrs. Clifford Kellogg, of San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Fay Port, Mrs. Fred Lucken and Mrs. Leonard McCorkell, of Akron, Iowa.

One son, Orlan, and brother, Guy Morehead, preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon of last week in the Akron Methodist church, Rev. A. A. Howe, the pastor, officiating. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
