Minnie H. Doering, 96, of Le Mars, died Sunday, March 26, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars.

Wilhelmine Helene Doering was born July 19, 1909, on the family farm near Le Mars, the daughter of Carl Herman "Charley" and Anna Catharina (Borchers) Mammen. She attended country school at Grant Township #9. Following her primary education, Minnie assisted her family with farming. She continued her education at Western Union College (Westmar College) in Le Mars with an emphasis on secretarial work.

On Jan. 20, 1935, Minnie and Marvin Everett Doering were united in marriage at her parent's home near Le Mars. Minnie and Marvin made their home on a farm near Le Mars. They raised their family and farmed there until Marvin died Feb. 28, 1973. Minnie moved to Le Mars and on Feb. 14 of this year became a resident at the Good Samaritan Village of Le Mars.

Minnie was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church, rural Le Mars. She participated in quilting with her church circle and played the piano with her sister Alice during these quilting events. She grew beautiful roses that she shared with family, friends and church. She was very artistic and enjoyed flower arranging, crocheting, quilting, hardanger and painting, and even made pictures with dried flower petals. But her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Survivors include two sons, Robert and his wife Barbara S. of Grand Island, Neb., and Mark and his wife Barbara A. of Rio Rancho, N.M.; a daughter Cheryl Doering of Minneapolis, Minn.; grandchildren Terry Doering and Lisa (Marc) Rocco of Los Angeles, Calif., Chad (Tong) Doering of Shenzhen, China, Cassandra (Tom) Alber of Mesa, Ariz., and Megan (Dave) Simon of Chicago, Ill.; step-grandchildren Tricia (Dave) Hazen of Blue Hill, Neb. and Mark (Ariann) Brown of Omaha, Neb.; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Caitlin, Jake, and Masha; step-great-grandchildren Kurtis, Kennedi, Konner, Kameron and Ladelle; and a brother, Carl Mammen and his wife, Vera of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Marvin; an infant sister Lorene; a sister, Alice Kruse and her husband, William; and a brother, Elmer Mammen and his wife, Irene.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church (Grant Township), rural Le Mars. The Rev. Dan Gerrietts will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at the Mauer-Johnson funeral home of Le Mars. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Saturday.
