Mrs. Mary Fursee Claimed By Death Resident Of Sioux Township Most of Life

Mrs. Mary Fursee, 68, long time resident of Sioux township, Plymouth county, died Monday at her home 1611 Center Street, Sioux City, of a heart ailment.

She was the wife of the late Jonas Fursee, well known farmer, who died a year ago.

Mrs. Fursee was born December 25, 1871, in Jones county, Iowa, and when she was eight months old came with her parents to this part of the country and lived on a farm near Le Mars and later the family moved to a farm on the Broken Kettle.

In 1887 she was married to Jonas Fursee and they resided in Plymouth county with the exception of two years when they lived at Sturgis, S. D.

She is survived by a son, Robert Fursee, three daughters, Mrs. Martin Trometer, Mrs. Lester Bebee and Mrs. Herbert Case and eight grandchildren.

The funeral services Vere held Wednesday at the Westcott-Doughty Chandler funeral home and interment made in Logan Park cemetery in Sioux City. Rev. Golden Thompson of Hildreth church in Le Mars conducted the funeral services.

All Milnerville who knew Mrs. Mary Fursee was greatly shocked and deeply grieved at the news of her sudden passing Monday morning of last week in Sioux City. While she had been none too well for some time, her death was a shock to all those who knew and loved this splendid woman.

The funeral was held in Sioux City on Wednesday afternoon and was largely attended both by her many old friends of this locality and newer friends from the city, where she had made her home for so brief a time. Rev. Golden Thompson, of Le Mars, conducted the simple and comforting service, and Mrs. Ward Knapp and Miss Hackett, a friend of the family, sang.

Pallbearers were six of Mrs. Fursee’s grandsons, young men who we understand, also performed the same service for their grandfather, Jonas Fursee only about a year ago. The interment was in the family plot in Logan Park Cemetery. Mrs. Fursee was a beautiful woman in character as well ns face, and was greatly beloved by all who knew. her. A tireless worker, she was always hospitable and every one Who came to her door was welcome. When she lived in the Milnerville neighborhood, she was foremost in all things that were good and lasting and that would help the life of the community.

Although she had lived elsewhere for some years past, yet she kept in touch with her friends and neighbors here, and no "Ladies' Aid" seemed quite complete if Mrs. Fursee was unable to come. The surviving members of her family have the sympathy of all of us who also knew them and loved Mrs. Fursee.
