Albert Fredrich Winterfeld, longtime resident of the Craig vicinity and at present, mayor of the town, died very suddenly while shoveling snow at his home there on March 11, 1956.
Mr. Winterfeld was born October 30, 1876 in Clayton county, Iowa and came to the Craig vicinity when a child. After farming several years, he retired and moved to town 25 years ago. He was 79 years of age.
Meta Schulz and Albert Winterfeld were, married March 7, 1905, in Reading township, Sioux county. Mr. Winterfeld was a charter member of St. John's American Lutheran church in Craig and custodian of this church for many years.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 13, 1956 at 2:00 p. m. at St. John's Lutheran church in Craig, with Rev. Donald A. Schmidt officiating and burial was in the church cemetery under direction of the Mauer funeral home in Le Mars.
Survivors include his wife, Meta; a son, Alvin of Craig; two daughters, Mrs. Esther Oloff of Craig and Mrs. Lucille Wilken of Akron; five grandchildren and 4 great- grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Louis J. Winterfeld of Craig; two sisters. Mrs. Mathilda Lenth and Mrs. Charles Anderson, both of Marcus.
