Mrs. Thomas (Mary) Sweeney
Mrs. Thomas (Mary) Sweeney, 86, Akron, died Thursday (June 2, 1983) in a Sioux City hospital of a brief illness.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron. Fathers Hoffman, Skahill, Shisell, O'Rourke, Harrington, Stone and Sweeney officiated. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery at Ellendale. The Catholic Daughters of America and members of the parish had rosary services Sunday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were: H. P. Anderson, Richard Coyle, Phillip Bernard, Stanley Rolfes, Jim Harvey, Dallas Wilken.
Mrs. Sweeney, the former Mary Ann McCullough, was born Dec. 20, 1896, at Enid, Okla. She taught school in rural Plymouth County. She married Thomas H. Sweeney Jan. 7, 1920 in Sioux City. He died May 1, 1976. She was a member of the Altar Society of the church, the Catholic Daughters of America and the American Legion auxiliary of Akron.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. C. L. (Doris) Frederickson and one son Robert, both of Sioux City; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
