Daniel “Beanie” Huls, 54 of Le Mars died Thursday September 1, 2011 at his home in Le Mars.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at St. James Catholic Church with Father Matt Hewitt officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitations will be from noon until service time on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home of Le Mars.

Pallbearers will be Paul Huls, Dan Bohlken, Tom Schulz Jr., Brian Schulz, Rick Prouty, and Tyler Huls. Honorary casket bearers will be his nieces, nephews, and past and present members of the Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department.

Daniel Dean Huls, “Beanie” as he was known to family and friends was born January 30, 1957 in Le Mars to Floyd and Marcella (Orban) Huls. Beanie graduated from Gehlen Catholic High School with the Class of 1976. He was a volunteer with the Le Mars Fire and Rescue Auxiliary Department for several years with his father and brothers. As a young man, he worked for several years at Randall’s Super Valu in Le Mars before joining his father in the family business, Plymouth Plumbing and Heating. He worked at the business until 2002. Beanie later worked for several years in maintenance for Oak Leaf Properties taking care of the Floyd Valley Apartments in Le Mars. He also worked security for Plymouth Oil in Merrill. Beanie was united in marriage to Margaret Schulz on July 14, 1978 at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars.

Beanie enjoyed his 1955 Chevy Station Wagon; having been a member and participated with the Tri-State Cruisers. He also enjoyed hunting, motorcycles and his pets.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Margaret of Le Mars; his mother, Marcella Huls of Le Mars; 3 brothers, Dale and his wife Dianne, Darwin and his wife Linda, and David and his wife Torrie all of Le Mars; a sister, Judy Meister and her husband Randy of Lee’s Summit , MO; 8 nieces and nephews, Paul and Mary Huls of Sioux City, and their children; Brekka and Briley Huls of Le Mars, Jenifer Huls of Sioux City, Shaun and Minisa Huls of Hampton, VA, and their children; Misa and Kenji, Cory Huls of Tuscon, AZ, Audrea Huls of Davenport, Amy and Jesse Lennox of Cedar Rapids, and their daughter Avery, Jana Meister and Danica Meister of Lee’s Summit, MO; in-laws; Rod and Linda Schulz of Sioux City, Douglas and Judy Schulz of Le Mars, and their children; Brian and Kevin, Tom and Mary Schulz of Le Mars, and their children; Danny, Tommy, and Lisa, and Nancy Schulz of Le Mars; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Huls in November of 2003; a nephew, Jeremy Huls; parents-in-law, Melvin and Virginia Schulz; and a brother-in-law, Roger Schulz.
