Melissa Deckert, 41, of Le Mars passed away Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska after battling a lengthy illness.
Memorial Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Pastor Jon Meredith of First Baptist Church in Le Mars will officiate. Visitation with the family present will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.
Melissa Jean Rubia was born March 7, 1970 in Denver, Colorado to Emily Jean and William Franklin Rubia. She attended school in San Diego, California. She later moved and worked as a Certified nursing assistant in Washington prior to moving to Dakota City, Nebraska in 1999. while living in Dakota City, Melissa worked at Sam’s Club in Sioux City. Melissa was united in marriage to Curtis Deckert in Aurora, Nebraska. Melissa and Curtis lived briefly at Rapid City, South Dakota before returning to the Sioux City area. In November of 2010, the couple moved to Le Mars. She enjoyed animals and decorating for the seasons and holidays.
Melissa enjoyed gardening and especially growing roses. She also enjoyed many types of motor sports and going to yard sales. Melissa loved caring for her family; especially being grandma and spoiling her grandson.
Survivors include her husband Curtis Deckert of Le Mars; 2 daughters, Cryissa and Noelle Moulton of Sioux City;a grandson, her pride and joy Nicholas Bawe Batawui of Sioux City; her mother, Emily Rubia of Sioux City; her father, William Rubia of Polson, MT; a brother, Gregory Rubia of Lake Wood, WA; a sister, Crystal McGuire of Polson, MT; 5 nephews and a niece and several in-laws in Le Mars and Porcupine, SD.
