James B. Swoyer, 68, of Richland died March 1 at a Redfield hospital.

Services were at 2 p.m. March 4 in the Anderson Funeral Home at Elk Point. The Rev. Ralph Burdette of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron, Iowa officiated. Burial was in the Richland cemetery.

Mr. Swoyer was born May 24, 1905 in Richland. He was graduated from Elk Point High School and attended the University of Iowa and the University of Minnesota. He farmed in the Richland area until 1953 when he started work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Huron. He later worked for the State Highway Department at Huron until in 1973. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron. He married Marcella Lundeman in 1939 in Mitchell. She died in 1957 in Akron. He married Helen Bishop in 1959 in Watertown.

Survivors include the widow; his mother, Mrs. John (Pear) Swoyer of Richland; a son, James B. of Richland; three daughters, the Misses Jacqueline and Jerri of St. Paul, Minn. and Miss Jill Elizabeth of Richland; a brother, Eldean of Akron and a sister, Mrs. Errol (Golda) Foerster of Sioux City.
