Remsen Bell-Enterprise: The ranks of Remsen pioneer residents lost another member, and the community a beloved woman and much respected citizen yesterday, when Mrs. Ettje Griepenburg, 74 years old, and a resident here for thirty-seven years, died suddenly at her home.
Mrs. Griepenburg was the widow of a former prominent Remsen farmer and a native of Germany. Griepenburg, also of the place. In 1882, and for a period of ten years the couple continued to farm there. In 1892 they came to the United States and direct to Remsen, and this has been the family home ever since. On their arrival Mr. and Mrs. Griepburg went to farming ten miles south of town, where they prospered and enjoyed life to the fullest.
In 1913 they sold out and the aged couple settled down to enjoy their remaining days in comfort.
