Funeral of Mabel Groepper on Monday. Remsen Girl Succumbed to Injury Received in Childhood.
Death came at an early hour Saturday morning to end the sufferings of Miss Mabel Catherine Groepper, 26, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Groepper of Remsen, The Bell-Enterprise reports.
“Mabel had been in poor health since she was four years old when she suffered a severe spinal injury in a fall from a chair in the Groepper home. Her parents provided every means of possible recovery, taking the child to leading specialists and various hospitals for treatment over a period of years, to no avail. While she enjoyed occasional relief her condition gradually developed until about seven years ago she became a permanent invalid, unable to be about. However, in the family home she received every possible care and comfort. During the last holiday season her condition suddenly became worse and she became a bed patient, passing away at two o’clock Saturday morning.
“Mabel Catherine was born on the Groepper farm southeast of Remsen August 10, 1920. Despite her enfeebled condition she proved a dutiful, loving child, devoted to her parents, brothers and sisters and cherishing the friendships she cultivated among the numerous neighbors and others who called to help brighten her life, for all of which she displayed her gratitude in many ways.
“Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. A. Noack, were held in the family home at one o’clock Monday followed by services in Christ Lutheran church and interment in the Remsen cemetery. Pallbearers were Raymond Guttner, Philip Dunn, Orville Steffen, James Christoffel, Harold Bock, and Roy Letsche.
“Surviving, besides the parents, are the following sisters and brothers, all living in the Remsen and Marcus territory: Ernest, Harry and Walter Groepper, Mrs. Clarence (Viola) Berding, Mrs. William (Edna) Dunn, Clarence, Mrs. Donald (Lillie) Nestor, Alvin, Loren, Kenneth and Alice. Kenneth is still in the navy and was not able to come for the funeral. Alice resides with her parents. – Le Mars Globe-Post, Jan. 27, 1947, page 2.
