Henry Fromme Early Resident Taken By Death. Prominent Farmer and Stock Raiser in Henry Township For Many Years.
Henry Fromme, 73, pioneer farmer of Henry township, died June 29, after an illness of six weeks.
Henry Fromme was born March 29, 1862, in the village of Polle, province of Hanover Germany. At the age of eighteen he came to the United States. On his arrival in this country he settled at Freeport, Ill., where for two years he busied himself at farm labor. In 1883 he came to Plymouth county, and lived here the rest of his life.
His first three years in this county he spent working on a farm in Marion township, and on May 5, 1886, in Le Mars, he was united in marriage to Lena Mohning. Immediately after their marriage they settled on a farm in Marion township which they rented, and after spending four years there they purchased a farm in Stanton township, five miles south of Le Mars. After three years years on this farm they sold the property and bought a fine quarter section six miles south of Remsen , in Henry township, which is still owned by the estate. Here they lived, labored hard and prospered and in a few years added to their holdings with the purchase of an additional eighty acre tract, giving them 240 acres of good land.
In later years Mr. Fromme lived in Remsen.
While on the farm Mr. Fromme served for many years as a member of the board of township trustees, also several years on the board of education in the district.
Mr. Fromme was instrumental in the organization of the Farmers Co-operative Co. of Remsen, twenty-two years ago, and for seventeen consecutive years he served the company on its board of directors.
To Mr. and Mrs. Fromme four children were born. A daughter, Charlotte, died in 1903 at the age of five years and son, Albert, died in 1918 at the age of 28 years, while in the army service. He died at Camp Dodge.
Surviving besides his widow, a daughter, Edna, now Mrs. John Witt, of Remsen and one son, Wm. Fromme, who occupies the old home farm south of town. There are two grand children.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at St. Paul’s Evangelical church, Remsen, and burial was made in the Remsen cemetery. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, July 9, 1935, page 1.

Old Resident Here Claimed by Death. Henry Fromme Passes Away at Home Saturday, Age 73, Funeral Tuesday.
Following a brief sickness of but six weeks, Henry Fromme, Pioneer farmer and prominent in business and political circles here for half a century, passed away at his home last Saturday evening at the age of 73 years. His death was due to heart trouble. Surviving are his sorrowing widow, a daughter and a son. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at St. Paul’s Evangelical church, and burial was made in the Remsen cemetery, a large concourse of regretful friends joining the heartbroken family in their hour of extreme grief.
Mr. Fromme, all his life possessed a robust physique and excellent health, began to suffer the ravages of heart disease about six weeks ago. Nevertheless for two weeks he continued to make his daily visits among his friends about town and to attend to his business matters, but rapidly his condition grew more aggravated and four weeks ago he ceased to venture from his home. A week of perfect rest and excellent medical care failed to bring about a turn for the better, and he was bedridden for the last three weeks as hope for his recovery dwindled, and for a number of days his death was expected. He passed away at 8:45 o’clock Saturday evening, June 29.
Henry Fromme was born March 29, 1862 in the village of Polle, province of Hanover, Germany, and as a babe was baptized in the Lutheran faith, renewing his vows as a youth through Confirmation. In 1881, at the age of 19 years, he decided to seek his fortune in the United States, and his early aspirations were attained in many years of success in the face of the hardships that beset the pioneer. On his arrival in this country he settled at Freeport, Ill., where for two years he busied himself at farm labor. In 1883 he came to Plymouth county, and throughout these 52 years was a resident here, taking his place in his mature years among the most prominent of those who settled the west [east] part of the county.
His first three years in this county he spent working on a farm in Marion township and on May 5, 1886, in Le Mars, he was united in marriage to Lena Mohning. Immediately after their marriage they settled on a farm in Marion township which they rented, and after spending four years t here they purchased a farm in Stanton township, five miles south of Le Mars. After three years on this farm they sold the property and bought a fine quarter section six miles south of Remsen in Henry township, which is still owned by the estate. Here they lived, labored hard and prospered, living there for 16 years—from 1903 to 1919—and after the first few years they added to their holdings with the purchase of an additional eighty acre tract, given them 240 acres of the best land in this rich agricultural territory which they helped to develop and in which they became eminently successful.
Mr. and Mrs. Fromme retired in 1919 to a well-earned rest, choosing the town of Remsen as their permanent home in their declining years, an since coming to town have been regarded as among its most prominent citizens, a reputation which they carried with them from their farming neighborhood.
While on the farm Mr. Fromme served for many years as a member of the board of township trustees, also several years on the board of education in his district. He took a keen interest in affairs of national and state concern, and always active in affairs of the local importance. To his good business judgment was due his success as a farmer and business man, as well as many a forward movement in civic affairs of the township. Mr. Fromme was instrumental in the organization of the Farmers Co-operative Co. of Remsen 22 years ago, and for seventeen consecutive years he served the company on is board of directors. His judgment in the business affairs of the company were regarded highly and his associates never failed to seek his consul when important business affairs were discussed. He retired from active duties as a director five years ago.
Henry Fromme was one of those honest, hard working, sound thinking and substantial farmers and business men of whom any community has reasons to be proud. He was a devoted husband and father, a kind, considerate and helpful friend, and a citizen of the highest rank. His many years of residence in this community and his splendid character and personality gained him an army of friends who regarded him highly and who enjoyed his association. The community lost a splendid member in the death of Henry Fromme and his bereaved widow, daughter and osn have the heartfelt sympathy of every person who enjoys their acquaintance.

Funeral services were held Tuesday beginning at the family home at 1:30 o’clock, and at St. Paul’s church immediately following. Services were conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Paul Wuebben. Burial was in the Remsen cemetery. The services were very largely attended by old friends who joined the sorrowing family in their grief. Pall bearers were six nephews of the deceased, namely I. H. Schulte, Allison Harnack, Louis Mohning, Henry Meyer, George Wiebke and Herman Harnack. – Remsen Bell Enterprise.
