Services for Bessie Earl, 84, the former Bessie Smith, a former Akron resident and a Sacramento, Calif., housewife for 42 years were held recently in Sacramento Memorial Lawn Mortuary.

Mrs. Earl died Sunday, Sept. 30, in a Carmichael convalescent hospital. She and her husband, Fred, opened a service station in North Sacramento in 1931. The operation developed into the Earl Oil Co. which was widely known in the north area until 1944 when the couple retired. Mrs. Earl was a member of Palm Avenue Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband; daughter, Dorothy L. MacBride; son, Robert; sister, Olive J. Peshek; brother, Glenn Ellen; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Entombment was at Sacramento Memorial Lawn.
