Funeral services were held November 7 at the Garretson United Methodist Church for Mrs. Mary Waddle, 84, of 719 South Second Avenue, Sioux Falls, S.D. Rev. Donald Greenongh conducted the service. Robert Adams, a grandson, accompanied by Mrs. Robert Waagmeester sang "How Great Thou Art" and"The Lord's Prayer."
Pallbearers, all grandsons, were: Dean Waddle, William Adams, Jerome Fiene, Allen Heesch, Lowell Heesch, and .Calvin Heesch. Interment was in the Summit Hill Cemetery at Garretson, S.D.
Mary A. Brown was born in a log cabin near Milnerville, Iowa, on December 27, 1887, to Jesse Luman Brown and Lily Knapp Brown. They lived in the Merrill community for a year and then moved to a farm near Webster, S.D. In 1916 they moved to a farm near Roslyn, S.D. where they lived for 24 years. In 1940 they bought and operated a Gamble Store in Garretson, S.D., retiring In 1952.
Mrs. Waddle passed away on November 4, 1972 following a lengthy illness.
She is survived by two sons, Jesse of Arcadia, Nebr.j Glen of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two daughters, Mrs. Russell Adams of Leavenworth, Kansas; Mrs. Delbert Heesch of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two brothers, Amos Brown of Verndale, Minn. and Spencer Sanford of Menahga, Minn.; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1954, a son, Francis, who was killed in World War II at Metz, France in 1944 and a brother Sidney Sanford.
She was an active member in the WSCS, Order of the Eastern Star, and an honored gold star mother of the American Legion Auxiliary at Garretson.
Mrs. Waddle has many friends and relatives in the Westfield, Akron and Sioux City areas. Mrs. C. P. Knapp, of Westfield, attended the funeral.
