Funeral services for James F. McVay, age 64, were held Saturday, April 15, at 2 p.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church, Rev. Ralph Burdette officiating. Music at the services was "How Great Thou Art" and "Ivory Palaces," James Henriksen, vocalist, Mrs. Orin Harris, organist Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, under the direction of the Schroeder Funeral Home. Graveside services were conducted by Freedom Lodge, No. 434, A.F. & A.M.
Casket bearers were: Cyril Larsen, John Swoyer, Dr. C. R. Mason, Raymond Hebeler, Arval Lake and Grant Gassman.
Mr. McVay died April 13 at the Akron Hospital after a long illness. James F. McVay was born August 9, 1907 at Hudson, S. D. In 1931 he married Myrtle Jordahl at Buffalo Center. She died in 1951. On September 4, 1954 he married Geneviene Gossard in Sioux City.
Mr. McVay lived in Westfield, Iowa and in the Hudson, S.D. area until 1943 when he moved to Akron. He was employed by the Standard Oil Company until retiring in 1970. He was a Past Master of Freedom Lodge and a member of the Sioux City Consistory.
Survivors are his widow; two sons, Robert 0., of Fostoria, Mich., and James V., of Apple Valley, Minn.; a daughter, Mrs. David (Marlene) Aitken, of Wheaton, Ill.; a stepson, Douglas Gossard, of Richfield,
Minn.; a stepdaughter, Miss Mary Gossard, of St Paul, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, W. L. McVay, of Beresford, S.D. and H. V. McVay, of Granby, Mass.; two sisters, Mrs. Palmer Larson, of Hudson, S.D., and Mrs. Leo Thompson, of Waynesville, Mo.Akron Register Tribune
