JOHN NIELSEN

John Nielsen, 94, LeMars, longtime Plymouth County resident died Thursday (July 30, 1987) At The Abbey in LeMars.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s American Lutheran Church in LeMars. Rev. Tom Lee will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery with military rites by Wasmer Post 241, American Legion.

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday with the family present from 7-8:30 p.m. at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mr. Nielsen was born Nov. 20, 1892, in Horsens, Denmark to Rasmus and Rasmena Jensen Nielsen. He served in the U.S. Army Coast Artillery during World War I. He married Herlig Kloster.

The couple farmed in Marion Township, Plymouth County until 1954 when they retired and moved to LeMars. She died in 1985.

Mr. Nielsen was a member of St. John’s American Lutheran Church, Wasmer Post 241, American Legion and the Last Man’s Club.

Survivors are a son, Dennis of Hilton Head, S.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Dorothy) Jelken of LeMars and Mrs. Harry (Donna) Kienzle of Potsdam, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Dolores in 1971; four brothers and two sisters.
