Franz Jacobs departed this life Monday afternoon, December 13, at the Akron Hospital, following an Illness of many months duration. He was 79 years of age.

Franz Peter Jacobs was born in Union County, South Dakota, January 19, 1892. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Herman Jacobs, Sr. During infancy and youth he was baptized and confirmed in the Peace Lutheran Church, near Alcester, S.D. He attended Garland School, where his first teacher was Mrs. Kate Polar. He helped his father on the farm when he was not in school. In the Methodist Parsonage in Elk Point, S.D., on September 16, 1912, he was united in marriage with Myrtle Halvorsen. From 1912 until 1926 they lived on the Henry Schneiderheinz farm just southwest of Pleasant Hill U.S. Church in Union County, west of Akron. In 1926 they moved to Akron and have lived here ever since. For some 16 years, or until 1942, he operated a truck. He served as Akron's city clerk from 1942 to 1944 and served two terms on the Akron town council. It was during his service there that the streets of Akron were black-topped. He bought a farm just northwest of Akron which he farmed until he retired in 1960. For more than twenty-five years he had been a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. He was a man of his word, whose kindness and friendliness was shared by the many who knew him. He was always gracious and most appreciative.

Among those who survive his departure are his wife; his two sons, Lyle, of Akron, and Milo, of Jacksonville, Florida; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Fritz, of Beresford, S.D., Robert, of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Pastor Elmer, of Mitchell, Iowa; two sisters, Ella Pike, of Elk Point, S.D., and Violet Jacobs, of Beresford besides many other relatives and friends. A sister, Lilly, and two brothers, Bill and Herman, preceded him in death.

The funeral service in his memory was held Thursday forenoon, December 16, with Pastor David J. Roy officiating. Mrs. Henning Shoulberg was organist and accompanied William Bohlen, Carol Harris and Margaret Peters who furnished special music.

The pallbearers were: Richard Bean, Fred R. Claesson, Raymond Hebeler, George Von Hagel, Julius Wilier, and John Winquist. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.
