John R. Kelley
John R. Kelley, 79, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 1988 at his home.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. Vocalists were Tim Kelley and Randy Frerichs, singing "In The Garden Medley" and "The Old Rugged Cross", accompanied by Carol Harris.
Mr. Kelley was born Dec. 8. 1908, to Logan and Maude (Robinson) Kelley in Anita, Iowa. He spent his early years in Fort Dodge. He lived and worked at Atlantic for several years before moving to Sioux City, where he worked for American Serum Co. for 13 years. He married Xaveris Hoffmann Sept. 16, 1939 in Sioux City. In 1943, the couple moved to a farm west of Merrill where they lived until 1949, then moved to a farm east of Westfield. In 1978, they retired and moved to Akron. Mr. Kelley enjoyed a hobby of recording music for himself and other people, and loved to bowl.
Survivors include his wife, Xaveris; eight sons, Dan and Pat, both of Burlinton, N.C., Jerry of Hawarden, Tom and Robert, both of Sioux City, Tim of Westfield, Jim of Sioux Falls, and Rick of Akron; three daughters, Mrs. Lewis (Janice) Embrey of Dodge City, Kan., Mrs. Gary (Garnet) Buum of McPherson, Kan., and Nancy Kelley of Elyria, Ohio; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
