Akron Register-Tribune: Local friends of A. J. Chambers, a former well known and respected resident here, will be sorry to hear of his death on June 7, 1947, in the hospital of Corvallis, Oregon, where he had submitted to an operation for a stomach ailment on June 2. He was 84 years and 4 months of age.
Alfred John Chambers was born at Alysford, Kent, England, on February 7, 1863, and came to the United States with his parents at the age of seven years. They lived in New York a few years and then moved to Sioux City, Iowa, where he lived until 1887, when he came to Akron, Iowa, (then Portlandville.) Here he was united in marriage with Emma Florence Barr, and they made their home in Akron, he working in the elevator of the Ross Grain Company several years, then at carpentry for the late Chas. Kanago until May 1924, when they moved to Sioux City, and going from there to Oregon in 1927.
