Funeral Rites For Mrs. Emma Mehlhop Held At Remsen.
Final Rites were held Monday in Chirst Lutheran Church at Remsen for Mrs. Emma Mehlhop, 55, lifelong resident of Remsen, who died after three days illness, September 25. Rev. A. Noack officiated and six nephews were pall bearers: Walter Erichsen, August Nitzschke, Arnold Erichsen, Elmer Erichsen, Elmer Maass and Henry Holler. Honorary pall bearers were Lloyd Nitzschke, Donald Nitzschke and George Erichsen, nephews. Another nephew, Lyle Nitzschke, in the armed services, was unable to be present. Burial was in the Remsen cemetery.
Emma Mehlhop, daughter of Detlef and Katherine Erichsen, was born on a farm southeast of Remsen, in Remsen township on December 10, 1886, and on January 23, 1908, became the wife of Henry Mehlhop, member of another Remsen family.
The couple went to farming and occupied their beautiful farmstead southeast of Remsen, where they prospered and reared their family until death came to mar their happiness by taking the husband on January 26, 1941. Mrs. Mehlhop continued on the farm with the help of her children until last spring when she and two daughters came to Remsen to occupy a beautiful, newly constructed home in town.
Surviving are the children-George, Alma, Marie and Elsie, all of Remsen with the exception of
Elsie who resides in Cedar Falls; her father, Detlef Erichsen of Long Beach, Cal., and her brothers and sisters, August and Herman Erichsen, Mrs. Edw. Nitzschke and Mrs. Frank Maass, all of Remsen. - LeMars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Tuesday, October 6, 1942, page 1.
