Funeral services for Leonard V. Gant, 74, Atkinson, Nebr., widely known for breeding and raising polled Hereford cattle and Duroc swine, were last Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic church, Atkinson. Rev. Edward Gill officiated and burial was in St. Joseph cemetery.
Mr. Gant died Monday at an O'Neill, Neb., hospital after a brief illness.
He was a founder of L. V. Gant & Sons which operates ranches at Atkinson and Geddes, S.D. Mr. Gant farmed in the Westfield community before moving to the Geddes, S.D., area in the 1930's. He later moved to the Atkinson community. He served as director of the Farmers State bank at Westfield and the Westfield consolidated school.
He was born October 7, 1895, at Westfield. He married Cecelia Dennison August 11, 1917 at Westfield.
Survivors are his wife; a son, Patrick of Geddes; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Mary Eileen) Herman of Lincoln, Neb., and Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Joseph of Valentine, Neb.; two brothers, Emmett of Sioux City and William of Akron; four sisters, Mrs. Laura McGruder of Le Mars, Mrs. Gladys Cahill of Rulsa, Okla., Sister M. Wilfred of Clinton, and Mrs. Ralph (Rita) Kirby of Chula Vista, Calif.; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
