Ernest W. Koch, a lifelong Remsen area resident, died Tuesday, Feb. 22 at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital, Sioux City, after a lingering illness. He had been hospitalized 11 days. He was 80 years old.
Funeral services were held at 11 o’clock Friday morning, Feb. 25 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church here. Rev. Kenneth Hilt, Pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, Marcus, officiated and burial was in the Remsen City Cemetery.
Mr. Koch was born December 15, 1891 on a farm south of Remsen, the son of Peter and Meta Koch. He married Anna Klaschen on Feb. 12, 1914. He farmed near Remsen and moved to town in 1948 and continued to farm with his son until 1956 when he retired.
Surviving are the widow Anna; two daughters, Charlotte Koch and Mrs. Alfred (Minnie) Schmitt of Remsen; one son, Melvin of Remsen; seven grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Dick (Anna) Kluver of Remsen.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Pallbearers were Herman Kluver, Ernest Klaschen, Ruben Stabe, Donald Klaschen, Keith Klaschen and Earl Klaschen. The Moeller Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. – family news clipping
