Gladys Schulz, 82, of Merrill, died Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, at The Abbey of Le Mars.

Gladys Plueger was born June 28, 1929, in Brunsville, the daughter of Fred and Minnie (Weber) Plueger. She received her education at Le Mars High School.

On May 6, 1948, Gladys and Lester "Bud" Schulz were united in marriage at Christ Lutheran Church (Grant Township), rural Le Mars. They made their home on a farm west of Merrill. Gladys and Bud lived in California for a brief time while Bud served in United States Marine Corps. Following the service, Gladys and Bud returned to the farm.

In addition to farming, Gladys worked at Aalfs Manufacturing and the Le Mars Daily Sentinel. Upon their retirement they moved into Merrill and later Le Mars.

Gladys and Bud spent their retirement winters in Texas and enjoyed fishing trips to Nevis, Minn. She liked gardening and the outdoors. Gladys attended Merrill First United Methodist Church.

She will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Arlene Olson of Le Mars; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Warnock of Merrill; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester "Bud" Schulz on August 24, 2011; and a brother, Stanley Plueger.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The Rev. Merrill Muller will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Merrill. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present to greet friends from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
