DEATH CLAIMS OLD SETTLERS
Ben Helmrichs Passes Away At His Home In This City Tuesday

Ben Helmrichs, well known resident of Plymouth county and LeMars for many
years, died at his home, 215 Third Avenue NW, Tuesday, March 28, at the age
of seventy-five years. His death was due to complications and old age.

Berend Helmrichs, son of Hinrich Helmrichs and his wife, Christine, nee
Wilken, was born on April 11, 1858, at Uthover, Kreiss Wittmund
Ostfriesland, Germany. He came to this county when twenty-seven years of
age, settling first at Coleridge, Neb. He remained there a short time and
then came to Iowa, working here and there in the neighborhood of LeMars.

In 1889 he was united in marriage with Mary Rickert. Mrs. Helmrichs died
November last. Mr. Helmrichs farmed in Preston township until 1910 when he
came to LeMars. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

The funeral will be held this afternoon in St. John’s Lutheran Church at 2
o’clock.

The service will be in the English language with the pastor, Rev. J. J.
Vollmar, in charge. Rev. Theo. Meyer, of the Preston township Lutheran
Church, will speak in the German language. Interment will be made in the
LeMars City Cemetery.

Mr. Helmrichs leaves one daughter, Mrs. John Bohlken, of Ireton, five
grandchildren and one great grandchild, one brother John Helmrichs of
Ireton, a sister in Germany, many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Helmrichs was a fine citizen and neighbor and enjoyed the respect of all
who knew him.
