Mrs. Roy (Martha) Schlutter, 90, of Remsen, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at Crestview Manor in Webster City following an illness of several months.
The former Martha Rosina Hattendorf was born Sept. 4, 1908, at rural Ocheyedan, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Louisa (Glade) Hattendorf. She attended rural school in the Ocheyedan area. Prior to her marriage she worked for a number of years in Sioux City. On Sept. 23, 1938, she married Roy Herman Schlutter at the Christ Lutheran Church parsonage in Remsen. She was a homemaker.
She and her husband farmed for many years in the Remsen area before retiring. After retirement they lived in Remsen for approximately one year. Mr. Schlutter died in May 1986.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen and the Lutheran Church Ladies Aid.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Gerald and Areti Schlutter of Las Vegas, Nev., and Dennis and Lois Schlutter of Minneapolis, Minn., one daughter and her husband, Shirley and David Hays of Dayton, Iowa; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, and seven brothers.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church, Remsen, with the Rev. Robert L. Eggers officiating. Burial will be in the Remsen City Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the funeral service Wednesday, beginning at 9 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, and continuing until service time.
