Funeral rites were held at Remsen Saturday afternoon in St. Paul’s Evangelical church for John Paulson, 85, well known former Remsen resident who passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Theo. H. Harberts, near Sibley, after three days illness caused by a paralytic stroke.
The deceased was born in Marne, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, and there was united in marriage to Elizabeth Peters, the couple coming to this country in 1888 and settling near Avoca, Iowa, where they resided for one year. In the spring on 1889 they came to Remsen and for three years Mr. Paulson worked for various famers. In 1892 they went to farming for themselves, renting seven miles northeast and later 11 miles northeast of town, and in 1900 bought a farm near Sibley. Mrs. Paulson passed away many years ago and for the last 22 years Mr. Paulson made his home with his only daughter.
John Paulson was a many of kindly disposition, honest and upright in business and devoted to family and friends, and a man who won the respect of his many acquaintances.
