JOHN NEMMERS, 93, WAS PIONEER BUILDER
John G. Nemmers, a LeMars building contactor for 65 years, died at the Brentwood Good Samaritan center Wednesday on the morning of his 93rd birthday.
Mr. Nemmers was a contractor from the age of 21, until his retirement about seven years ago.
He continued doing cabinet making in his shop at home until a few years ago.
He was born Jan. 30, 1881, in LeMars and was a lifelong resident here.
He married Annie Ley Sept. 27, 1905, in LeMars. She died in October 1970.
Surviving are two sons, Elmer of LeMars and Orville of Remsen; two daughters, Evelyn and Verna, both of LeMars; 15 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph Catholic church. Msgr. Dean Walker will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in LeMars under the direction of the Luedtke Funeral home.
A wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Mr. Nemmers was a member of the Holy Name Society.
Mr. Nemmers was the son of a pioneer LeMars couple Michael P. and Katherine (Marx) Nemmers.
He was preceded in death by three grandchildren, three brothers and five sisters.
