Selma B. Muecke 1916-2010

Selma Barbara Muecke was a lifelong resident of Plymouth County, Iowa.

Born on October 30, 1916, in the middle of World War I and before women had the right to vote. She was the youngest of 6 children born to German immigrants, Jacob and Elizabeth (Greenberg) Porsch.

Selma was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith when services were conducted in German.

She grew up in rural Kingsley at a time when a one room school house and a single teacher were the norm for public education and she was recognized for winning the local spelling bees.

Her siblings all learned how to play musical instruments for entertainment, long before radio and TV. She was musically gifted and played the piano, accordion, guitar and ukulele.

She always loved animals; her country companions consisted of a dog named Peggy and a pony named Dolly.

Selma married Henry Muecke on Valentine’s day, 1944, and was married for 25 years before the passing of her husband in 1969. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her siblings. She is survived by two sons, Roy and Arnold.
