MRS. WAGNER DIES. WAS A LONG TIME RESIDENT OF FREDONIA TOWNSHIP. PROMINENT IN GOOD WORKS.
Mrs. Wagner, wife of P.G. Wagner, a resident of Fredonia township, for many years, died at the city hospital at an early hour on Saturday morning.
Mrs. Wagner was brought to the hospital in Le Mars about three weeks ago and underwent an operation for gallstones on January 5. Her condition was serious from the first and she gradually grew weaker passing away on Saturday.
Mrs. Wagner was born in Dubuque county, Iowa, on June 16, 1859, and was nearly sixty years of age. Her maiden name was Eva Maria Margaretta Rubie, and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred R. Rubie. She grew up there and was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran church. On January 22, 1884, she was united in marriage with P.G. Wagner. Shortly after their marriage they came to Plymouth county and settled on a farm in Union township, where they lived for eight years when they moved to Fredonia township and lived on the farm they still own for twenty-six years. They recently removed to a place adjoining the home farm.
Three children were born to them who are Edward, who conducts the farm, and George and Cecilia, living at home. She also leaves three brothers who are Fred Rubie, of Remsen, George Rubie, of Grand Encampment, Wyo.; and George Rubie of Dubuque county. There is one grandchild.
The funeral services will be held this afternoon at the home at one o’clock and at two o’clock at St. Paul’s church, Remsen, Rev. E.H. Eilers pastor, conducting the services.
Mrs. Wagner was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Ladies Aid society and a regular attendant at church. She was a devoted wife and mother, a good home builder, a good neighbor and her friends were numbered by her acquaintance. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Jan. 21, 1919, page 1.
