OLD SETTLER DIES. Mrs. Henry Thode Was a Well Known Resident of Remsen.
Mrs. Henry Thode, a resident of Remsen vicinity for the past twenty years, died February 24 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Efford Moser, in Fredonia township following a long illness at the age of 71 years and 7 months.
Sohpia Thode, nee Thedens, was born in Heide, Holstein, Germany, on July 1, 1858. On September 14, 1880, she was united in marriage to Henry Thode, and six years later came with him to America to live. The couple resided first in Walcott, Iowa, and after two years they removed to Lowden. After intervals spent in Huber, Nebraska, and Tama and Clinton, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Thode moved to Davenport, Iowa. In 1910 Mr. Thode accepted a position with the J.P. Beck company and the family moved to Remsen. Mr. and Mrs. Thode continued to reside in Remsen until 1928 when the failing health of Ms. Thode necessitated their removal to the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Moser, where Mrs. Thode could receive care and ministration of her daughter.
Mrs. Thode was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church, and keenly interested in church affairs. During her life in Remsen, she made many warm friends.
The deceased is survived by her husband, one son, Otto Thode, of Davenport, and two daughters, Mrs. Earl Gleason, of Davenport, and Mrs. Efford Moser, of Remsen, and four grandchildren, Wilfred and Geraldine Thode and Audrey Marie and Dorothy Eilen Moser.
Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Moser and at 2 at St. Paul’s Lutheran church. The burial service was read by Rev. Hugo Weichelt. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, March 4, 1930, page 5.
