Frank Boever, 69, passed away at the Sacred Heart hospital Thursday at about 5:00 p.m. after falling twenty-three ft. out of a tree in Remsen.
Mr. Boever, together with Jack Thiel, were trimming trees at the home of Miss Anna Borm in Remsen. They were using Thiel’s Service truck with a 35 ft. ladder boom. In throwing the rope he lost his balance, slid about four feet down the boom and fell about 20 ft. to the ground.
Dr. E. D. Christensen examined the man immediately and he was rushed to the Sacred Heart hospital where he passed away an hour later of internal injuries.
Mrs. Boever has been in poor health and when a neighbor broke the news of her husband’s fall and death to her, she collapsed. She was taken to the Sacred Heart hospital where she is in critical condtion.
Survivors besides Mrs. Boever are brothers: William B. of Montpelier, Iowa; Matthew of Walnut Grove, Minn.; Sisters: Mrs. Ed Kunkel of Alton; Mrs. Mary Rodesch, Mrs. J.P. Hames and Mrs. Rose Berding, all of Remsen and a brother, John Boever of Remsen.
Funeral services were held at 8:30 a.m. today, Monday, October 27 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, Burial was in St. Mary’s cemetery under direction of the Fisch funeral home.
Mr. Boever was born April 11, 1884 in Remsen. He farmed near Remsen until 1921 at which time he and his wife, the former Ella Wittmer, moved to Remsen. They were married in Remsen in 1910. – Le Mars Globe Post, Oct. 27, 1952, page. 1
Note: There appears to be a discrepancy on the burial place mentioned in this obit. The gravestone is in the Remsen city cemetery, Block 1 West.
