ANOTHER PIONEER GONE. Hans Petersen son of Fredonia Township Passes Away Wednesday.
At his farm home in Fredonia township on Wednesday occurred the death of Hans Petersen, aged 77 years, who had been a resident of the county for many years. Mr. Petersen’s health has been declining for several months and ??? to the infirmities of old age notwithstanding which his death comes as a shock to his loved ones and friends.
Hans Christian Peterson was born September 16, 1822, near Haderslebn [Haderslev], Denmark, where he lived until he was thirty years of age, and where he was married to Miss Christina Peterson in 1852. One child, a son, was born to them and in 1876, Mr. and Mrs. Peterson came to Plymouth county to join this son, P.H. Peterson, who preceded them to America four years.
In 1878 Mr. Peterson purchased and moved upon the farm on which he resided until his death, a period of thirty-three years. In 1878 Mrs. Petersen answered the summons of the grim messenger and was laid to rest in the cemetery in this city. Two years later Mr. Peterson was married again to Meta K. Schmidt, who, with his son, still survives him.
Mr. Peterson was a life-long member of the Lutheran church and was highly esteemed by a large circle of friends. Funeral services will be held from the home of his son, P.H. Peterson, in Fredonia township at ten o’clock Saturday morning. From there the funeral cortege will proceed to the Danish church near there, where a further funeral service will be held, and the remains will be brought to this city and interred in the city cemetery. – The LeMars Globe-Post, Saturday, April 3, 1909, page 1

Hans C. Petersen died at his home on section 26, Fredonia township, at 3:15 p.m, Wednesday, March 31st, of old age. Deceased was born in Denmark, Europe, on the 16th day of September, 1822. In 1876 he came with wife to America and directly to Plymouth county and he always resided in this neighborhood. Two years after his arrival his wife died, leaving him with one child, his son, Peter Peterson, now of Fredonia township. In 1880 H.C. Peterson contracted a second marriage with Miss Christina Schmidt, who survives him. No children were born to this union. Decedent was one of those wholesouled, kind and generous natures, whose memories remain forever dear and sacred to kin and friends. One brother, who is blind, and makes his home with Erick Scott and family, also survives. The funeral cortege will leave the house of mourning at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3d, and after religious services in the Danish church nearby the remains will be taken to the Le Mars city cemetery to be laid to rest by the side of Mrs. Peterson. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, April 6, 1909, page 2.
