Remsen. From the Bell-Enterprise: Funeral Services were held Sunday afternoon in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran church for Mrs. Margaret Witt, one of the community’s oldest residents, who settled here in 1885, and who passed away at her farm home north of Remsen Thursday night July 8. Surviving are four sons. Mrs. Witt was 82 years old. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, July 20, 1943, page 2.
Messrs. And Mesdames John Witt, Clarence Grau, Fred Utesch, E.F. Benjegerdes, Mrs. Emma Neisius, Mrs. Herman Becker, Mrs. J. Gross and Miss Lena Gross, Jos. Neisius and P.C. Kallsen and Mrs. William Rowdy attended the funeral of John Witt’s mother, Mrs. Margaret Will which was held in Remsen on Sunday. – Le Mars Globe-Post, July 15, 1943, page 3.
Note: Margaretha “Margaret” Haack was the wife of Carsten Witt. She died in 1943 age the age of 82, so she would have been born about 1861. She was buried in the Remsen City Cemetery.
