Life’s end. AUGUST WITT, 81, OF LE MARS DIES; RITES SET SATURDAY
August Henry Witt, 81, Le Mars, longtime Plymouth county resident, died Thursday at Floyd Vlley hospital in Le Mars following a 6-month illness. He had been hospitalized for two months.
Mr. Witt was born April 15, 1887, at Remsen, the son of Margaret and Carsten Witt.
His marriage to Henrietta Harms took place Feb. 12, 1909, at Remsen. The couple farmed in the Remsen and Marcus areas until her death Easter Sunday in 1949.
At that time Mr. Witt moved to Cherokee where he was employed at Roadside greenhouse for seven years. He retired in 1956 and moved to Le Mars.
April 30, 1960, he was married to Alma Kraft at Pipestone.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran church, Remsen. Rev. Paul Wuebben will officiate and burial will be in Remsen city cemetery under direction of the Moeller funeral home at Remsen.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Friday.
Survivors are his wife, Alma, Le Mars; three daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Myrtle) Ware, Cherokee, Vivian Witt, Le Mars, and Mrs. Earl (Maybelle) Juhl, Remsen and a son Leonard, Le Mars; seven grandchildren and ?? great-grandchildren; two brothers: Adolph and Walter, both of Remsen, three step sons and a step daughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Henrietta; two brothers ??? and George, a sister ??? and a grandson,Stephen. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, April 26, 1968, page 3.
