Obituary. Mrs. John C. Peterson.
Mrs. John C. Peterson Sr. 83, who for the last two years had been living in the Le Mars and Remsen areas, died Sunday night (July 23, 1972) at Happy Siesta Retirement home at Remsen. She had at the home five weeks.
Mrs. Peterson until two years ago lived at 2218 Palmetto St., Morningside, Sioux City. Since then she had been living with her sons James and Farley in Le Mars and Remsen.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist church, Le Mars, with Rev. Robert Hanthorn and Rev. George Dunn officiating.
Burial will be in the Remsen City cemetery under direction of the Moeller funeral home of Remsen.
A prayer service will be held Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Moeller funeral home.
The former Ella Glasgow, she was born Feb. 3, 1889, at Olive Branch, Ill., a daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah (Shaver) Glasgow. She was raised in the Cherokee area and graduated from high school at Correctionville.
Mrs. Peterson attended Morningside college and taught in the Sioux City school system for a number of years.
She married John C. Peterson Sr. Jan. 9, 1914, at Sioux City. Mr. Peterson was a market news reporter for the Sioux City Journal from 1937 until his death in 1967.
Mrs. Peterson was a 50 year member of the Morningside Presbyterian church and was active member of many Sioux City organizations until her husband’s death five years ago.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son John C. Peterson Jr., one sister and five brothers.
Survivors are three sons, James J. of Remsen, Farley H. of Le Mars and Dr. Norman C. of Santa Monica, Calif.; two brothers, Lloyd in Canada and Royce of Boise, Idaho, 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, July 25, 1972, page 7.
