Le Mars, Iowa - Vernon Pageler, 77, of Le Mars passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at his home following a brief illness. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig, Iowa. Burial will follow at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Craig. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 20 at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church on Saturday prior to the funeral service.

Vernon Dean Pageler was born on July 26, 1933 at Craig, Iowa, the son of Carl and Elsie (Schuette) Pageler. He attended school in Craig. Following his education, Vernon took a position with Wells' Dairy in Le Mars. After six years with Wells, he purchased and operated his own gas station. He later returned to Wells' Dairy and worked for 19 years before retiring in 1983.

On February 15, 1953 Vernon married Lucille VanderPol. From this union, four children were born. In 1970, Vernon married Cheryl Brunsting. On June 2, 1975 Vernon and Bernice (Gardner) Moerman were married in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This marriage brought four more children into the family. During the retirement years, Vernon and Bernice spent the winter months in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Vernon will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Bernice of Le Mars, IA; his daughters, Val (Paul) Grant of Le Mars, IA, Roxane (Mike) Gonzales of Henderson, NV, Torrie (Dave) Huls of Le Mars, IA, Terry (Brenda) Pageler of Lenexa, KS; Bernice's daughters, Marilyn (Kenny) VanVoorst of Le Mars, IA, Becky (Terry) Frerichs of Sioux Falls, SD, Jane Moerman of Livingston, TX and Mary Hardy of Hawarden, IA; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Darlene Westergard of Orange City, IA; Brothers, Derold (Verlys) Pageler of Omaha, NE and Stan (Mary) Pageler of Le Mars, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Cheryl; a brother Donald and his wife Paula; a brother-in-law Fred Westergard; and one great-grandson, Jonathan VanVoorst.
