Marcus, Iowa - Kelly Schwarz, 8, of Marcus, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 2011 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. The Very Reverend Armand Bertrand will officiate. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 19 at Holy Name Catholic Church. The family will be present from 5-8 p.m. with a Scriptural Prayer Service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church on Friday prior to Mass. The Earnest - Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus is assisting Kelly's family with arrangements.

Kelly Thomas Schwarz was born on August 28, 2002 in Le Mars, Iowa to Michael and Cynthia (Briggs) Schwarz. At three months Kelly suffered a brain injury that left him partially disabled. He was a student with Mr. Collins' Second Grade Class at Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Schools where he participated through a computer connection. Although he could not physically be present in the classroom, Kelly enjoyed the interaction with his fellow students.

Kelly spent a great deal of time at Sanford Children's Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he received excellent care. Recently he spent time at the Castle of Care in Sioux Falls. Kelly enjoyed listening to music, fast cars and loud motorcycles. His faithful companion Ruby was always at his side. A special thank you goes to all of Kelly's caregivers throughout his life for their dedication and compassion.

Kelly will be dearly missed by his parents, Cindy and Mike Schwarz of Marcus, IA; a sister, Jaime (Matt) Weitl of Carroll, IA; two brothers, Steve Schwarz of Le Mars, IA and Scott Schwarz of Des Moines, IA; grandparents, Fran and Roger Briggs of Cleghorn, IA and Alvira Schwarz of Marcus, IA; aunts and Uncles, Wendy and Keith Hauschildt of Marcus, IA, Evelyn Briggs of Altoona, IA, Dan Schwarz of Marcus, IA, Ann and Norman Spooner of Spencer, IA, John and Connie Schwarz of Cherokee, IA, Bill and Kim Schwarz of Cleghorn, IA, Mary Koerselman of Maurice, IA, Jean and Ervin Schmidt of Milford, IA, Sara and Scott Paine of Cottage Place, WA and Leo Schwarz of Marcus, IA; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Marvin Schwarz; and uncles, Byron Koerselman, Keith Schwarz and Pete Ruden.
