Betty Jean Sands
(November 27, 1927 - April 15, 2011)

Holstein, Iowa – Betty Jean Sands, 83, of Holstein, Iowa passed away on Friday, April 15, 2011 at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Private family services and interment will be held at a later date.

Betty Jean Schwanz was born on November 27, 1927 in Ida Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Bessie (Welding) Schwanz. She received her education in the Ida Grove school system.

On June 10, 1944 Betty Jean and Marvin Otto Sands were united in marriage at Sac City, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Cherokee, Iowa area for 22 years where they also raised their two sons, Merlin and Myron. In March of 1967 they relocated to a farm near Holstein, Iowa. Together, Betty and Marvin farmed until Marvin passed away suddenly on December 29, 1977. Betty remained on the farm until her recent illness earlier this month.

She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, Merlin M. Sands of Holstein, Iowa and Myron Sands and his wife Rosemary of Sioux City, Iowa; two grandchildren, Valerie Sands and Steve Sands both of Sioux City, Iowa; one great-grandson, Blake Sands; a brother, Wilbert Schwanz and his wife Lila of Alta, Iowa;special family friends, Linda, April and Koraley Lafrentz all of Galva, Iowa, Edna Quigley and Susan Weise both of Aurelia, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Marvin; and a brother and his wife Le Roy and Pearl Schwanz.
