Bliss, Winnifred Joy 1905 - 1990

Winnifred Joy Bliss, 85, Akron, died Friday, Oct. 26, 1990 at Floyd Valley hospital in Le Mars, after a brief illness.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Westfield Congregational Church. Rev. Norman McCallum officiated. Craig Boetger sang "On Eagles Wings" and "How Great Thou Art" was sung by Dawn Kinney, accompanied by. Sheryl Banks. "Amazing Grace" was sung by the congregation. Burial was in Riverside cemetery under direction of Schroeder funeral home in Akron.

Pallbearers were Todd Bliss, Timm Bliss, Craig Boetger, Kevin Boetger, Sr., A. David Brink, Matt Bliss, Wade Bliss and Jeff Bliss. Honorary bearers were Marci Dennison, Debra Baldwin, Diane Keith, Kymm L. Master, Tami cluck, Dawn Kinney and Rene Dyess.

Mrs. Bliss, the former Winnifred Kroksh, was born Aug. 15, 1905, in Union county, S.D. to Ferdinand and Minnie (Jov) Kroksh. She married Roy Bliss, March 26, 1925 in Sioux City They farmed in the Akron and Westfield areas all their lives. Mr. Bliss died Dec. 26, 1967. She moved to Akron in 1971, and to the Abbey in Le Mars in February 1987. She was a longtime member of the Westfield Congregational church, their Ladies' Aid and the Tuesday club. She served as a 4-H leader for years.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and La Verla Bliss of Amarillo, Tex. and John and Becky Bliss of Johnson, Kan.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bernie and Arden Boetger of Akron and Norma Jean and Darwin Brink of Bronson; a sister, Helen Maynard of Banning, Calif.; a sister-in-law and her husband, Opal and Albert Hummel of Bella Vista, Ark.; 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles; a half-sister, Blanche Radtke; and a grandson and great-granddaughter.
