Elsie Frerichs, 95, of Akron, Iowa passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at the Akron Care Center in Akron.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston Township, rural Akron, Iowa. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2011, with the family present after 5:00 p.m., and a Prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa. Visitation will resume 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Elsie Gertrude Beeck was born October 7, 1915 on the family farm near Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Christian and Meta (Mangelson) Beeck. She was baptized into the Christian faith at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston Township and later confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Merrill, Iowa. She attended country school in Plymouth County and later high school at Liberty Consolidated, rural Plymouth County, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Alvin Frerichs on December 9, 1936 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. She and Alvin farmed near Akron, Iowa. Elsie was a homemaker for her family. Later on, Elsie began working for Otis Radio in Hawarden. She worked there for over 25 years. In 1975, they moved to Akron. Alvin passed away October 29, 1982. For the past 17 years, Elsie made her home at the Ridgewood Apartments in Akron.

Elsie was a lifelong member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston Township. She enjoyed being involved with the ladies quilting group for many years. Elsie also enjoyed doing needle work, crocheting, reading, and walking. But most of all she, she loved the times spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her four children: Elaine Dunbar (Bill) of Denver, CO, Judy Bauerly (Rich) of Le Mars, IA, Bob Frerichs (Iola) of Akron, IA, and Karen Carner (Rick) of Pittsburgh, PA; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren: a sister: Ella Frerichs of Akron; a brother in law: Arnie Frerichs (Edith) of Sioux City, IA;2 sisters in law: Halene Frerichs of Sioux City, IA and Mary Turner of Le Mars, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin; 3 sisters: Ida Goergen, Rose Feauto, and Lillian Albert; and 3 brothers: Paul Beeck, Edward Beeck, and Chris Beeck.

Memorials can be made in Elsie's name to the Akron Care Center Building Fund in c/o of the Akron Care Center, 121 South Street, Akron, Iowa 51001.
