William Earl Faulkner was born November 23, 1923 in Ireton, Iowa, the son of George and Lillian (Null) Faulkner. He was raised in Plymouth County and attended country school. Following his schooling, he began helping his family on the farm.

He was inducted into the United States Army in September of 1946. Before being deployed overseas, he was united in marriage to Albertha Bakker on November 24, 1946 in Akron. He served his country during the WWII era. He was honorably discharged in May of 1947. Following the service, he returned to the area. He and Albertha lived on a farm north of Akron until December of 1959, when they moved to Akron.

Bill began driving truck and later went to work for Nelson Hatchery in Akron. After several years, he went to work at Scrogg’s in Westfield. In 1977, he became the owner of the business and renamed it Westfield Farm Center. Later on, he sold the business to Nelson Hatchery and continued working for them until retiring. Following his retirement from the hatchery, Bill continued to do what he loved most, drive truck. He began driving for Heyl Transportation in Akron and would continue with them until retiring in 2003. Albertha passed away March 13, 2008. For the past year and half, Bill has been a resident of the Akron Care Center.

Bill was a longtime member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron and the Lion’s Club. He was also a member of Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. Through the years, he and his family enjoyed camping and boating. He also enjoyed playing cards and video lottery machines. Bill was an avid collector of 1:64 scale trucks and trailers. He enjoyed his HO scale model railroading collection as well. But most of all, he loved the times spent with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
