Porter R. Maynard

Porter R. Maynard, 85, of Akron, died Tuesday (April 12, 1988) in a Sioux City hospital after suffering a heart attack earlier at his home.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron. The Rev. Peter Peterson officiated. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Schroeder Funeral home in Akron. Visitation and a Masonic service, conducted by Freedom Lodge 434 of Akron, were held Wednesday in the funeral home. Gary Tucker, soloist, sang "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art". Renee Banks was organist. Pallbearers were Delbert Maynard, Lawrence Maynard, Dellis Dimmick, Larry Noll, Harvey Lias and Les Henke.

Mr. Maynard was born September 2, 1902 to Otis and Charlotte Sayles Maynard, in Westfield, Iowa. He married Hazel Hoven December 19, 1937, at Elk Point, S.D. The couple farmed their entire married life on the family farm until 1984, when they retired and moved to Akron. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist church of Akron, Masonic Freedom Lodge 434 of Akron, Vesper Chapter Order of Eastern Star and Abu Bekr Shrine Temple in Sioux City.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel; three sons, Arnold of Huntsville, Ala., David of Elk Point, and Richard of Jacksonville, Ore.; a daughter, Carolyn Hatten of San Clemnte, Calif.; a sister, Viola Miller of Albuquerque, N.M.; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Anita Brady.
